What is AWS Class EB8 SAW & Flux?
AWS Class EB8 SAW electrodes and flux are designed for high-strength welding applications. The electrode typically has a low alloy steel composition with additions of nickel, chromium, and molybdenum, ensuring excellent toughness and hardenability. Mechanical properties include a tensile strength of approximately 80–100 ksi, yield strength around 65–75 ksi, and good impact toughness at sub-zero temperatures. The associated flux promotes stable arc characteristics, deep penetration, and minimal spatter. Together, the EB8 electrode and flux deliver superior weld quality, excellent bead appearance, and resistance to cracking, making them ideal for heavy-duty structural and pressure vessel applications.
