What is AWS Class ER309/309L SAW & Flux?
AWS Class ER309/309L SAW wires and flux are specifically designed for welding 18-8 austenitic stainless steels. The ER308 wire typically contains 19–21% chromium and 9–12% nickel, while ER309L has lower carbon content (<0.03%) to minimize carbide precipitation and improve corrosion resistance. Mechanical properties include a tensile strength of 580–720 MPa and elongation of 30–40%, ensuring strong, ductile welds. The matching flux promotes stable arc, smooth bead appearance, and low slag inclusion. Together, they provide excellent weld quality, corrosion resistance, and suitability for critical stainless steel applications.
